POLISH EYELET and KALOCSA LACE EMBROIDERY

All about me...

Hi, my name is Peta McMillan, I was born in Chorleywood, Hertfordshire, England in 1947. In 1955 my family moved to New Zealand where I have lived ever since.
I am married to Derek and we live on an 11 acre lifestyle block in the sunny Bay of Plenty, New Zealand. We have a daughter and two sons and a batch of grand children.
My passion is embroidery and I also enjoy gardening. Derek’s passion is Appaloosa and Paint horses.

Derek and I have done several overseas trips taking in parts on USA, Canada, British Isles and a little of Australia. I have been an active member of The Whakatane Embroiderers’ Guild for many years where I have had many opportunities to learn, share and teach embroidery. I have taught Snutki and Kalocsa (Hungarian) embroidery up and down New Zealand for the past few years and it is still very new and many people keen to learn it. I love meeting  embroiderers as they are all so enthused about their hobby and we ’speak the same language’.
I love the designing side of Snutki and Kalocsa as it lends itself to many shapes and forms from nature. I have ideas popping into my head all the time and have to note them straight away.
As a young person I was employed in the grocery trade and completed a Diploma in retailing. Maybe this is why I enjoy the selling side of things also. I hold a certificate in Adult Teaching through the New Zealand Embroiderers’ Guild. I have worked part time in a book shop and have been an Avon lady for many years. I love letter writing and have a pen friend in America – Joyce in Auburn, Indiana whom I met in 1997 and is an avid embroiderer! I love the traditional embroidery techniques but play occasionally with creative styles. Creative Stump work is a wonderful pastime!
